Discord Launches Social SDK to Bring Its Features Directly Into Games
March 17, 2025
At GDC 2025, Discord unveiled its new Social SDK — a free tool that lets developers integrate Discord’s social features directly into their games.
Key features of the SDK:
Unified friends list: Combines in-game and Discord friends.
Deeplink invites: Send game invites via Discord in just one click.
Rich presence: Shows in-game activity on user profiles for instant joins.
No Discord account needed: Players can use social features without signing up, though linking adds extra benefits.
Currently available for Windows 11+ and macOS, the SDK supports C++, Unreal Engine, and Unity, with console and mobile support coming soon.
A closed beta offers advanced features like:
Cross-platform messaging
Linked Discord channels
Integrated Discord voice chat
Why it matters:
Discord says linked accounts result in 65% more playtime and 25% more active days. This SDK follows other dev-friendly initiatives like Activities and Quests, showing Discord’s focus on powering game discovery and engagement.
With the Social SDK, Discord is embedding its community tools right into the gaming experience — helping developers build more connected and engaging multiplayer games.
